Frederick Alliance for Youth
The Frederick Alliance for Youth is a major Ausherman Family Trust initiative to address the needs of children and young teens in the western area of the City of Frederick. Issues that have been identified as affecting the children and families of that area are:
- Unsupervised youth
- Difficulties experienced by non-English speaking families
- Lack of transportation
- An increase in gang activity
- Parents who need education and basic skills
- Lack of child care for pre-school aged children and difficult youth
The targeted outcomes for the Alliance are increased educational advancement, both in school class work and technology competency, and to increase each youth’s developmental assets. Parental involvement and positive relationships with adults will be a by-product of the supervised programs underway at the Hillcrest Community Center.

Hope Alive
The Ausherman Family Foundation and Family Trust have been consistent supporters of Hope Alive, Inc. since 2006. The lives of homeless women and their children have been sheltered and transformed at this facility located in Sabillasville, Maryland. The major contribution of the Foundation to Hope Alive was the complete rehabilitation of a barn on the property into a center known as the Joshua Center where educational activities and child care are housed. It is also the administrative center for the facility.
The program is greatly enhanced by the service rendered by numerous volunteers. Since the program has a Christian basis, it is also supported by area churches. A recent grant to Hope Alive from the Ausherman Family Trust enabled the staff to update the organization’s website and other communication tools in order to reach out to the wider public for support. There is a great need for support for homeless women and their children, and Hope Alive is one of only two shelters serving families in Frederick County; the current economic environment makes support for these agencies imperative.

ThorpeWood Season of Growth Program
The Ausherman Family Trust has provided a second year of support for this program located at ThorpeWood in Thurmont, Maryland. The program fosters hope and change in the lives of adolescent girls involved in the juvenile justice system by providing relationship-centered therapy. Life skills are taught and trust relationships are built that hopefully is the incentive for the girls to continue to undergo needed change.
